I have a very important topic in this post- Thyroid/Thyroweight.

Thyroid plays a very critical role in regulating the metabolism, and by extension manages almost every part of the body. This level of bodily integration coupled with lack of awareness can leave people suffering from a common disorder they don’t even know exists and can go unnoticed for months or even years!

This topic is something even I was also not much aware of .
I got to attend this informational event on ThyroWeight awareness .
At this event DR. Shehla shaikh who has 25 years of experience in the field of endocrinology with the famous superstar Ms. Juhi chawla highlighted a lot of important issues regarding thyroid disorder which was an eye-opener for me too and I am truly grateful I got to be a part of such a wonderful and informative event.

I guess most of us ,especially us women are guilty of not being able to find time for ourselves in the midst of other responsibilities and we tend to give other things ,like even as small as doing groceries more importance than our own health.

First let me highlight some symptoms of thyroid disorder which can be detected very easily like constant feeling of lethargy,fatigue,tiredness,small weight gain (all together is called Thyroweight),dry hair, memory loss ,irritation, slow heart rate ,weakness and many more.

These symptoms tell us to actually pause and take note but due to our fast-paced life we tend to ignore it.

*Do you know where is your thyroid gland?

The thyroid gland is a butterfly shaped organ located on the front side of your neck, along the windpipe.
The function of the thyroid gland is to make two thyroid hormones:
Tetra-iodothyronine (T4)- MAJOR HORMONE.

*Role of these hormones:
If you don’t have enough thyroid hormone, you may feel tired and cold. Or, if you have too much thyroid hormone, you might feel nervous, jumpy and warm.
These hormones also influence growth, development and reproduction.

A dysfunctional thyroid gland may lead to abnormal thyroid hormone production which causes:
-Hypothyroidism-Insufficient thyroid hormone production.
Symptoms: Weight gain, tiredness, Hair loss, constipation, difficulty in sleeping, sensitivity to cold and changes in menstrual cycle.
-Hyperthyroidism-Excess thyroid hormone production.
Symptoms: Fatigue or muscle weakness, hand tremors, anxiety, nervousness, trouble with sleeping,weight loss, light periods or skipping periods.

✔The THYROID FUNCTION TEST (TSH) is the most common test that needs to be done every 6-8 weeks. The test interval could be changed to 4-6 months upon doctors consultation , once the hormone level is in control
When you experience the symptoms, it is your responsibility to-
-consult your doctor on witnessing any of these symptoms.
-take your medications as directed by your doctor.
-do not skip your medicines.
-do not change the brand or dose of your thyroid medications without consulting your doctor.
-find time to take care of yourself.

Juhi Chawla spoke about how her husband, father in law and Hair dresser being Thyroid patients themselves did overcome the disorder with very simple medication and now living their life to the fullest. Her Husband being an adventurous person, continues trekking to high peaks.

I have also seen family member close to me and even friends who discovered that they suffer from thyroid disorder at the time of conceiving.
But thanks to proper and timely medications they were able to overcome health issues like thyroweight, hair fall and a now living a happy life with kids.

I wish to drive awareness through my social media channels and especially my blog to increase Thyroweight awareness amongst all my followers , especially women so that they do not ignore the early symptoms and get themselves diagnosed on time.

And most importantly, observe good health practices , eat right and exercise.
The more you and your doctor work as a team ,the healthier you will be.
